Fire Station

Summary
This project was on a ±55,000 SF fire station on the Navy installation in Jacksonville, FL. The existing modified bitumen roofing and insulation were removed down to the original tongue-and-groove wood deck. A large portion of the soffits and decking required replacement with custom-milled planks to match the existing wood. The new system included a vapor barrier and mechanically attached tapered polyiso insulation installed over the wood deck. Then we installed two plies of modified bitumen roofing. The two layers consisted of a 180-mil SBS-modified interply sheet that was heat-welded to a fire-rated, LEED-qualified granulated reflective cap sheet. The fire station’s ongoing operations posed challenges for the site, with limited access to the side of the building with the vehicle bays. Performing detailed work at the roof edge and soffits was restricted on most workdays and required careful coordination with the building occupants. Additional work included replacing an OSHA-compliant access ladder, a rooftop HVAC unit, and reinstalling the existing gutters and downspouts. Our crews successfully completed the project ahead of schedule, with the support of our quality control management team. This roof came with a 20-year NDL warranty.
