Niceville Lab Roof | Eglin AFB

Picture1.jpg

Summary

Eglin AFB hosts the Air Force’s primary testing sites and laboratories in the world. Their facilities are utilized by the government and commercial manufacturers. Building 440, also known as the McKinley Climatic Lab, was constructed in the 19040s during WWII and has continually served the Air Force as a state-of-the-art testing facility for extreme temperatures and climates. The building’s envelope and roof require an exceptional amount of insulation and specialty roofing systems.

The government desired the existing BUR to remain on this ±62,338 SF roof. To waterproof the failing system, CYE removed the loose rock aggregate, wall flashing, and roof accessories. CYE then installed a fluid elastomeric coating system and installed new wall flashing, sealant, and other items necessary to provide a water-tight roofing system. This helped prolong the existing roof without the need to remove the membrane on a sensitive building completely.
