Summary

Robins Air Force Base is the worldwide manager of the Air Force’s aircraft hardware and software. CYE was contracted to provide a full design-build replacement of the roof on a facility that produces aircraft avionics systems. The project commenced with a comprehensive design package provided by our engineering firm. The ±110,000 SF building originally had a built-up roof with gravel that was removed entirely down to the existing decking. There were several areas of metal deck deterioration and rusting that required replacement.

The new roof system comprised 3.5” of polyiso insulation and a Duro-Last 60-mil PVC membrane. One of the roof sections was over a mechanical room with a congested area of rooftop vents, exhaust fans, and mechanical units, requiring careful flashing and curbing. Existing gas and ventilation piping lines ran across all roof areas and were carefully supported throughout construction. CYE installed new drains, scuppers, and downspouts. All of the parapet walls received new metal coping caps installed. Additional work included installing security grilles on the larger roof penetrations and installing new roof access ladders. This roof came with a 20-year NDL manufacturer’s warranty and a two-year workmanship warranty.

This building was also occupied and operational throughout the project. Due to the sensitive nature of the building’s occupation, additional security processing and restrictions were required for all roofing personnel.
